Catering to Children

We went out to eat some mexican chicken with my dad before they left to head back to California tonight.  It was great and we had fun.  The only downside was the loud music (although they did turn it down when we asked them to), and the music videos on the tv.  Josiah really wasn’t paying much attention to it though.  He was much more interested in the balls and toys in the vending machines.  But then a video came on that used cartoon characters in it.  It was definitely not a child friendly song.
It reminded me of Joe Cool, the cartoon camel that was used to sell cigarettes when I was young.  It’s amazing how much you will find when you pay attention to the media that enters your home.  There are so many things that promote sin and call the attention of children.  At times it almost seems intentional.  Especially during Christmas time commercials seem to cater to children.  It’s a sad reality, but I even have to monitor what cartoons my son sees.  With the television, radio, internet, youtube, iphones, etc. there are so many ways that messages can enter our homes.  Even Josiah at 2 1/2 years old knows how to use youtube on my iphone.  We need to protect them against the messages the world is sending by giving them the message that God sends them.  What does the Lord want to say to your children today?
But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Matthew 18:6
