A Kind Word

I’m on day number two of attempting to go grocery shopping with my boys and failing.  We’re in a discipline stage right now with both older boys and Caleb’s teething seems to be a never ending painful process.  We’ve gotten to the store two days in a row only to end up grabbing the absolutely necessary and run out the door.
It’s a difficult stage and I’m exhausted and quick to snap at them.  Somehow my boys have discovered something that can always change the mood though.  A kind word.  It can come in the midst of chaos or in the middle of discipline.  A sweet face, a “mommy, I love you,” or a impromptu snuggle.  And suddenly the storm has calmed.  My anger has subsided and there’s peace again.  All because one of my children has given a gentle answer.
And now it’s my turn.  To watch.  To learn.  To absorb the wisdom my small boys show.  And to live the power in giving gentle answers and kind words.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1

  1. This is a much-need reminder right now - I have a 2.5-year-old and a 10-month-old, and they are wearing. me. out. I could certainly stand to give them some extra patience and snuggles.
